From a small City in Madhubani, Bihar to a vision of creating a global EdTech start-up, DorkLab’s founder Sukant Jha, shared his humbling start-up story.

During his school days in Madhubani, Sukant had a keen interest in learning computer applications. As he faced many problems in his computer education, he has to move to Delhi to complete his education. Further he joined VIT Vellore as a B.Tech student in IT Branch. To fill the technical gap, he decided to create learning experience in a format that students liked.

With the aim to help school students learn better, he started his own AI based EdTech start-up, ‘DorkLab’, with his collage mates. Sukant Jha (Chief Executive Officer), Shreya Gunanithi (Chief Operating Officer), Aditya Kakkar (Chief Technical Officer), Hima Bindu Polina (Chief Research and Development Officer), Saima Shahnawaz (Chief Marketing Officer), and Rohit Thakur (Chief Finance Officer) are the well-skilled Co-Founders and board members of DorkLab.

Students find it difficult to search for updated technical resources to learn from, team DorkLab solves this problem by their creative community for programmers that acts as a one-stop solution for all the programming needs. A platform where you can learn, practice and share your knowledge. The team aims to create a robust learning experience that feels like a classroom, offering the traditional classroom characteristics like instructor – learner interaction, Q&As, discussion, collaborative projects, quizzes etc. They provide Personalized on-demand learning in programming, web technologies, graphic design etc. which makes a visible difference in a student’s career and helps them to upskill. Students get a complete access to detailed PDF notes by experts. Sukant mentioned that the educators are constantly learning, they are taking time to apply what they have learned and are constantly working on improving themselves for the students.

In the coronavirus pandemic in 2020, DorkLab offered a free summer innovation program for young enthusiasts, unlocking real-life possibilities for them. This helped students gain a hands-on experience. The four – week summer innovation camp was organized for students of Class 9th to 12th. The courses on Graphic Designing, Web Development and Programming were designed by experts to develop industrial skills and give the students a chance to explore and wisely choose their career path. Live virtual sessionhelped learners to exchange feedbacks, resolve doubts and an opportunity to learn from our industry experienced mentors. Complete access to the detailed notes via private Google Classroom was also provided.

The mentors also guided in building each student’s online digital portfolio reflecting their learnings. Students were assigned live, industry projects for their capstone project, as part of the courses. This gave them a first-hand experience of working with clients and an opportunity to network with industry leaders. Students were awarded with DorkLab badges on completion of assignments and certificates.

With the success of this summer innovation camp, DorkLab organized a similar program in 2021 as well. This program recently concluded and was a success too, with over 120 students completing their courses at DorkLab. The students have given positive feedback. Team DorkLab is now working on its long-term business plan and its plan for making DorkLab India’s biggest EdTech platform for technical education.
