We all like to celebrate our special days like Birthdays and Anniversaries. It is the day of the year when we like to party, spend time with friends and families, and eat good food. If it’s our dear and dear one birthdays, we like to give them gifts. Partying and gifting are the usual ways of making the day special. However, these are not the only ways to make the day a memorable one. You can make it special by even making someone else’s day special. Someone who is not privileged enough to enjoy these beautiful moments in life, someone who is not privileged to do something more than just their necessities for survival, someone for whom going to a restaurant with friends is just a dream and someone who is not sure whether they will get to eat the next meal or sleep hungry.

Thanks to Hope Begins Foundation, an NGO from Delhi NCR, who shows us that the celebration of special days is no longer the same. The founders of the NGO, along with its volunteers, are proving that celebrations have taken a new form nowadays. The privileged class of people are making their special days more memorable by donating to underprivileged and hungry kids, distributing sweets/chocolates, cutting a cake among orphan children, or providing meals to the needy. It’s not just their celebration, but people are also seen surprising their friends and family members by sending a special message from underprivileged children. They record a short message from the kids and send it to the person whom they want to wish. Such surprise wishes not only show that their friends remember their birthdays or anniversaries, but it makes them feel special because the wisher has gone that extra mile to wish them uniquely. The surprise factor is more unique than the gift itself. In other words, we can say that it’s a type of surprise gift to someone. The only difference from the usual way of gifting is that in this case, the gift is a virtual one and the actual physical gift goes to some children who really need it. These are just a few ways among many other ways how people are choosing to treat someone in need rather than spending a massive amount of money in restaurants and clubs. People are looking for that emotional and mental satisfaction more than material things.

It all started when Hope Begins Foundation’s team asked some of their donors to do this activity during their birthdays or surprise their friends on their birthdays. Some of them did that with the help of the team’s foundation. By doing that, the amount of joy they got in return was so fulfilling that they couldn’t stop telling their friends to do the same. Donors were excited to share the videos on their social medial platforms, and we were overwhelmed by the appreciation they got from their friends for such noble work. Word spread out, which led to more and more people approaching the foundation for such activities. Not everyone who donates is looking for the videos of the children wishing them. Some want to celebrate without doing any showoff on their social media. They come with the pure intention of feeding others on their birthdays. When asked about how they managed to do that, one of the founders said: “We bridge the gap between the donor and the recipient. Feeding the underprivileged is nothing new for us. We are already doing it, and it’s an ongoing process, thanks to our kind donors. However, we just made the donation process more exciting so that the donor also gets a reward for helping others.”

Hope Begins Foundation team is really happy with this because now more and more donors are willing to help others. Whether it’s a celebration or otherwise, the reason doesn’t matter as long as someone hungry gets to feed their stomach and sleep peacefully. Instead of the money going to some rich people’s pockets through restaurants and clubs, why not help someone in need and get blessings in return? This, in a way, is helping the NGO with their mission of eradicating hunger, and they are really happy about it.
